A haibun I wrote about the state of my state (Iowa.)

haibun

-- steve peterson

Each day my state legislature meets is a new opportunity to hurt people. Trans kids most now, and their parents, but more, too. We wake to discover a new cruelty. Clouds of fog that cut like knives. We’re told to save them, poor people must lose their food. To keep them safe, my students must lose an honest education and the chance to read books. Some angers take root like trees. Deeply rooted against the storm.
