Part of what we all are doing these days is waiting.

And during this waiting-time, I want to keep my eyes open and acknowledge the difficulty of waiting and the (sometimes) circular quality of waiting, which reminds me of a great book of short poems by Ted Kooser, Winter Morning Walks: 100 postcards to Jim Harrison. Kooser wrote these poems after the walk he took each morning as he was dealing with cancer. He sent these poems on the back of postcards to his friend, writer-poet, Jim Harrison.

I imagine Kooser waiting, waiting for whatever would happen next, trying to live the moment well.

28ºF, overcast and windy. Light snow from last night on the ground.

last week
the turkey vultures returned,
returned to circle
above the valley
to circle as if they had never left.
now the sugar maples
redden,
redden and wait –
they wait.
